What former Sergeant Tony Nance doesn't know about fingerprints (and number plates) isn't worth knowing.
Tony's had a fascinating career in the Australian Federal Police and Victoria Police as a fingerprint expert. He retired with 32 years under his belt.
He's been posted to south-east Asia many times and worked on the Bali bombing and Thailand Tsnumi before joining the Airport's Joint Aviation Intelligence Unit.

David McGowan used to be a Detective Sergeant in Victoria Police. He spent 21 years in the job before joining the corporate finance sector. After the four Victoria Police members were killed on the Eastern Freeway in April 2020, David was motivated to return to the police family becoming the Chief Executive Officer of Police Veterans Victoria (PVV).
Police Veterans Victoria is a not for profit organisation that supports police veterans and their families. The organisation aims to improve the mental health and well-being of all police veterans and their families through a range of support.

In part two of his interview on The Crime Couch, former Victoria Police Special Operations Group Tactical Team Leader George Hateley reveals how he was encouraged to join the elite unit. He recalls the culture of the SOG and the importance of preparation and planning before any raid.
George also talks about his experiences in Witness Protection, his involvement with the Russell Street bombing and the bombing of the Turkish Embassy.

George Hateley is a former Victoria Police Special Operations Group Tactical Team Leader. He was in the job for 18 years, including the State Surveillance Unit, the St Kilda Special Duties Unit and the Major Crime Squad.
In part one of a two part interview on The Crime Couch, George recalls his early days working Victoria Docks, the streets of St Kilda, arresting a granny heroin-dealer and his dramatic arrest of serial killer, Robert Wright who'd escaped from Jika Jika maximum security prison.

Former Sergeant Brian Stooke was one of seven police officers shot by gunman, Mad Max in June 1985. In part two of his interview on The Crime Couch, he talks about the 8 month man-hunt and what happened to the dangerous criminal.
Brian became a paraplegic after being shot four times and discusses how important getting back to work was for his recovery. He talks about life after policing and how vital the support from his family, colleagues and friends was for his rehabilitation.

Former Sergeant Brian Stooke is a hero and a survivor. He is one of seven police officers shot by "Mad Max" or Pavel Marinoff in June, 1985.
Brian was shot four times, one bullet severing his spine making him a paraplegic. But he returned to work and was awarded the Victoria Police Star for his action on duty. He's a remarkable man and continued to make a difference in the job he loves, despite his injury.
Brian's encounter with Mad Max sparked one of Victoria's biggest man-hunts ever. He remembers that night he was shot on The Crime Couch.

Former Detective Senior Sergeant Phillip Hubbard is an arson expert. He's a fire and bomb scene investigator and talks about one unusual job that stuck with him and his colleague, Detective Senior Constable John Robertson.
It happened on New Year's Day in 1995 involving an explosion of a grocery store. The store owner actually turned up at the local police station .... still smouldering! He was later arrested and charged with criminal damage by fire, arson and attempting to obtain property by deception. He was convicted and given a three year, six month jail sentence.

One of Geoff Tulloch's initial Victoria Police roles was at the Mobile Traffic Section. When stationed in Bairnsdale, he was the only motorcycle traffic cop in Gippsland. Geoff proudly rode an Ariel Square Four motorcycle which ended up in the Victoria Police Museum!
Known for his meticulous record-keeping and courtesy, Geoff was also in the Second-Hand Dealers Squad, Crime Cars and was a law instructor at the Academy before retiring as a Superintendent.
