Victoria Police's Detective Senior Constable Reginald Ernest Henderson was an extraordinary police officer. In a career spanning 38 years, Reg apprehended more than 3,000 offenders, identifying many only by photographs he kept in a little notebook. He was also known as "the Falcon of The Force" and "Eagle Eye Henderson".
Reg was more of a diplomat than a detective; well-groomed, quiet, didn't drink or smoke and acted as close personal security for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11, the Queen Mother, Prince Phillip, Princess Alexandra and the USA President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Former Victoria Police Sergeant Newton C Reynolds worked with Reg Henderson as a cadet. After leaving the job, Newton wrote a self-published book; "Henderson is the name" as a tribute to a man he deeply admires.

Hello there, what are the chances? Sometimes I’m sure the universe provides for us whether we are ready for it - or not! What lovely memories you have of Reg - he most certainly was a remarkable person and police officer. My father (also as top cop) recalled Reg with such fondness too and every time they talked in the Second-Hand Dealers Squad, Reg would get out the fine china for the cup of tea they shared. I also interviewed Reg for a video that was shown at my father’s retirement lunch at Dandenong Police HQ. He of course was immaculate and wore a three piece suit and wasn’t so tall then as I recall. He was a remarkable man, thanks so much for letting me know how much this podcast interview meant to you. I appreciate it, cheers Rochelle

i googled Snr Det Reg Henderson completely out of the blue and to my suprise found your podcast from 5 days ago! Blew me away actually as i havent thought about him for years! Reg Henderson was our next door neighbour for 30 plus years until my parents sold their house in 1993 . I remember him as a tall softly spoken man who always wore a suit … except for when he wore his tennis whites! from age 7 or so I would take myself next door to visit him and his wife Jean quite often, and have a pot of tea with them lol. Homemade biscuits, slices or teacake would always be on offer which i thought was wonderful. sometimes i would turn up on their doorstep with shortbread or whatever i had been baking with mum to proudly share over a cuppa! great childhood memories. I remember being told about his photographic memory and how he had made an important arrest at Darwin Casino ? of a wanted criminal at the time , because of his unique ability to remember faces from photographs, but i had no idea he was the police detective … and football player that i have learned about from this podcast. Wow i truly feel very honoured to have known such an infamous detective who clearly made an impact on many lives and also in the history of policing in our country. thank you! So glad i randomly googled him!
